The Bayeux Manuscript

In front of the cathedral, through the branches, enjoy a little more of this immersion in the medieval period by listening to an excerpt from the Bayeux Manuscript. It is an illuminated collection of 103 love, sad or drinking songs. Composed at the end of the 15th century, these songs were collected in Normandy and in the West of France. The manuscript escaped destruction at the beginning of the 19th century thanks to the curator of the municipal library of Bayeux, when it was going to be used to reinforce other books. It was then bequeathed to the BNF. It can be consulted on the Gallica website.

Le Manuscrit de Bayeux

Face à la cathédrale, à travers les branches, profitez encore un peu de cette immersion dans l'époque médiévale en écoutant un extrait du Manuscrit de Bayeux. C'est un recueil enluminé de 103 chansons d'amour, de tristesse ou à boire. Composées à la fin du 15ème siècle, ces chansons ont été collectées en Normandie et dans l’Ouest de la France. Le manuscrit échappe à la destruction au début du 19ème siècle grâce au conservateur de la bibliothèque municipale de Bayeux, alors qu'il allait être utilisé pour renforcer d'autres livres. Il est légué ensuite à la BNF. On peut le consulter sur le site Gallica.
